How often do the metro scores refresh?
Each metro's score refreshes once per day at midnight Eastern Time. A scheduled job re-fetches the latest 7-day forecast from Open-Meteo (with National Weather Service failover) and re-scores it. Every visitor in a given metro on a given day sees the same forecast, so a cook crew can coordinate around one shared score.
What cut and cooker are the tile scores based on?
The chooser tiles score the weather against the default brisket-packer cut on an offset stick burner, the most demanding low-and-slow combination. Open any metro to switch cut and cooker (pellet, kamado, kettle, electric) and re-score the same 7-day window for your setup. The detailed per-metro page persists your selection across visits.
Does the chooser cover every US ZIP code?
The chooser lists 50 of the largest US metropolitan areas with pre-warmed daily forecasts. For any other US ZIP, use the main Best Smoke Days tool at /smoke-weather/: enter your 5-digit ZIP and the same scoring engine returns a forecast within a couple of seconds (cached for 24 hours after the first lookup).
Tile scores use the default brisket-packer cut on an offset cooker, the most demanding combination. The metro page lets you switch cut and cooker to re-score for your setup.
